End of the World

Good Day My Faithful Family, Friends, and Fans, It feels like it has been forever since I have written a good letter to you. Well plenty fo things have happened between decent updates that i will let you in on. First and foremost, we just had transfers and I went from one end of the mission to the other. I was in the south of Mina Gerais with Elder Pires and then I left for Botucatu. One is 4 hours from the missions center to the east and the other 4 hours to the west. i was in the missions office from Sunday to Tuesday without changing, socks, shoes, ties, pants, or shirts. Still haven't had an opportunity to change. Ewww... I spent about 4 hours in the bus station and had a chance to play a giant game of chess. I beat every missionary contender and a guy who always plays there. I lost to someone who plays fast. I guess my brain only functions at slow speeds. I also had a chance to talk to the Duffster for like an hour. He is desperately waiting for a letter from an 18 year-old sister of mine (Morgan Healy). My last week with my companion was a rush. We had to go the temple on Wednesday so we left on Tuesday. We always had two days of divisions so we only worked in our area as an companionship for less than days. Needless too say our numbers our now low. Hope president doesn't chew me out... I love you guys! Thanks you parents and Grandma Jan for the packages and everyone for the letters! They make my week, but maybe send less sweet... I know an Elder who has already gained 45 lbs in just over a year. BYE! Come on really, Elder Healy

Are you from the Screamers?

Good Day, I hope you are well rested because I am not :P Yesterday we had to wake up at 3:30 to go on a 4 hour van ride to a multi-zone. That was rough. I fell asleep laying across about 3 seats and I believe drooing so when the van arrived at the Sisters´ area, I woke up quite embarressed. This last week was the most work I have ever done on the whole mission to date. I think we taught more thasn another companionship I know. We left earlier every day, used less time eating, and worked until the last minute. We have been focusing on only one neighborhood and have literally been to every house there. We are teaching like crazy, but it is so frustrating that no one seems ready to hear our message. But we keep at it. We went to one and house and the man asked, ´´Are you from the screamers?´´ We assured him no so he let us in. Apparently a church on his street has people just scream for no reason because they are supposedly talking in the ´´tongue of angels.´´ If only those people would read the Book of Mormon to understand that it means to speak the words prompted by the Spirit. A dog almost attacked me again :P I think all this running away is getting me in shape. A common form that people try and reject us is to say that ´´There is ony one God´´ as if this somehow justifies attending a false church. We always retort, ´´Therefore, there should be how many churches?´´ and they hesitantly answer one giving us the spring board to launch into our message. According to the Prophet Joseph Smith, the first principle of the gospel is to understand the correct character of God which a large part of Christendom does not understand. They claim to worship the same deity, but believe in a form of worship completely different. Praying to a saint or a cross and expecting an answer to a prayer is like, in my opinion, going to McDonald´s and expecting to lose weight. It is possible, but unlikely. We must understand a being to correctly communicate with it. I invite all who is reading this to study and pray for help to recieve a confirmation that first God exists and second that he loves you. Then seek to understand the grand plan he has for you and where you fit in it. Have a wonderful week. Come on really, Elder Healy

Promises

Hello Family and Friends!

As many of you know we had general conference this last weekend and it
was amazing! Our president let us watch all five sessions and I felt
spiritually overloaded afterward. Many of the talks that were offered
I have tried to adapt to missionary work to help the people here.

We spent about 5 hours cleaning the house today so I am a bit rushed.
I will try to hit the highlights. A dog almost ate me, but he wqas on
a chain so I ran away in the nick of time. Someone told me that all
Americans are crazy. I met an American English teacher who does not
teach Portugues. Cinnamon is a good source of fiber. I have been
drinking a lot of advocado shakes because they are a good source of
fiber.

We had one really Spiritual sexperience this week. We fasted to feel
the spirit more in conference and to have investigators visit church.
A miracle happened. We left in between sessions to contact a reference
we received from a member, but we received a wrong number so we asked
the neighbors if they new anyone that lived near by with the
reference´s name. He lived about a block a way. When we arrived at his
house, he answered the door. He said he had only arrived two minutes
before! We did not have time to teach so we invited him to go with to
us to the conference and he brought us back in his car! If we had the
correct number we would not have run into him! We hope to baptize him
in the up coming weeks. I am so thankful for this blessing we
received.

Sorry this was so weak, I will do better next week.

Come on really,
Elder Healy
